Course Overview
Are you caring, compassionate and competent at delivering high quality standards to others? Do you enjoy working in a team and are passionate about patient care? Our Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions) aimed at adult learners aged 19+, is the perfect way to gain entry into university to progress into courses such as nursing, midwifery, paramedics, mental health and physiotherapy.
The Access to Health Professionals Diploma is a Level 3 qualification designed to give students a direct progression route into allied health and care degrees including all four nursing pathways, paramedic science, occupational therapy, midwifery, physiotherapy, psychology, dental nursing, veterinary nursing, radiography, health studies or a HNC in Health and Social Care.
This part-time, one-year intensive course is designed to give you the stepping stone that you need in order be able to progress into a career as an NHS professional. This is a highly reputable course with an outstanding success rates, and will provide you with the knowledge, confidence skills to progress to study at university.
Modules studied on Access to HE Diploma (Health Professionals) include:
- Biology - Nutrition and digestion, disease and prevention, respiration and circulation
- Psychology - Obedience and conformity, social relationships and mental health
- Health Studies - Roles and responsibilities , History of the NHS and Understanding stress (online study)
- Study Skills - Academic study Techniques and Numeracy in Healthcare (online study)
Each subject is broken down into a number of graded units over the length of the course, towards the end of each unit you will produce an assignment to evidence what you have learnt. Our supportive teachers will use a variety of methods to help you achieve and learn independently within some units.
The course will be delivered through a combination of face to face and some online learning. You will be expected to attend taught lessons on one day per week (9:30am-4:30pm approx) with the online elements completed independently at a time that suits each learner.
Students who successfully complete the Access to HE Diploma will have the choice of progressing to higher education level study in either February/March or September 2027 intakes in a wide range of subjects including adult, child, learning disabilities, mental health nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or other health professions
You are required to have a GCSE in English at minimum grade 4/c or above, or level 2 functional skills. During the interview process, you will receive an in-depth one to one interview where you will discuss any other qualifications and or industry experience, along with advice and guidance as to the programme best suited for you. It is essential that prepare for your interview by researching the entry requirements for your future degree course as this varies from course to course.
If you need to study a GCSE Maths alongside the Access course then a further interview will be arranged. If you don't meet the entry requirements for Level 3 study you may be eligible for the L2 Preparation for Access course. Our expert and enthusiastic team can chat to you to see what type of role you would like to progress into and are on hand to prepare, guide, and support you to be in your chosen field. There are no formal examinations within this course as all your coursework will be assessed through essays, reports, case studies, as well as practical elements. You will be given plenty of advice to help you develop your academic skills so that you will be fully prepared to take on a university degree or higher degree apprenticeship.
Following your successful application you will be invited to attend a return to learn day where you will get an introduction to the teaching staff. You will also be guided through the content of the course, be taught some introductory sessions from the modules you will study, participate in initial assessments, along with gaining advice on how to start to formulate your personal statements. A full induction to the programme will also be provided for two weeks commencing January 2026.
Various delivery models will be available to support work and family commitments. As part of the formal interview process we can discuss this further and decide what is best to meet your individual needs. A student loan may be applied for in order to cover the full cost of the course. On successful completion of the Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions) and successful completion of a degree level course at university or higher apprenticeship, this initial student loan will be written off, meaning you would study the course for FREE!
