Course Overview
This apprenticeship will involve college attendance and off the job training.
You will also develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours.
You need to have an employer to support your apprenticeship and be employed in a relevant job role which duties may include:
• Identifying clients’ requirements in projects
• Identifying health and safety risks in project design
• Checking compliance with regulations
• Minimising the environmental impact of projects
• Assisting architects with developing detailed designs
• Co-ordinating design information
• Monitoring quality and costs
Apprentices will be assigned an assessor who will monitor their progress both in college and on site.
Apprentices are required to keep a portfolio of evidence generated in the workplace.
Construction Design and Build Technician Apprenticeship typical job titles can include: Assistant Design Coordinator or Design and Build Coordinator.
In the case of SME construction companies the roles are likely to include Design Co-ordinator or Design Manager. They are associated with the co-ordination of design information on construction projects and are based on construction sites with occasional time in offices.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship you can progress to level 6 apprenticeships such as;
- Building Services Design Engineer Level 6
- Design and Construction Managers Level 6
Individual employers will set the selection criteria for their apprentices though most will be expected to hold their maths & English GCSEs at grade 4/C or above. Prior experience will also be considered. Apprentices will also be considered if they have maths OR English at grade 4/C or above, where this is the case, apprentices must achieve a Level 2 in Functional Skills by the end of the Apprenticeship.
