Course Overview

Combining academic study with hands-on experience, this Level 4 apprenticeship develops skills in installing, maintaining and optimising automation hardware and software. Apprentices will demonstrate how they support manufacturing, logistics and utilities systems, gaining expertise in PLCs, HMIs and industrial networks to maintain efficient, safe and reliable operations.

In their daily work, individuals in this occupation will work with a range of automation hardware and software, carrying out installation, maintenance and troubleshooting activities. They will also communicate technical information and analysis in a variety of formats to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

 

Apprentices will be assessed through observations of performance, responses to written and spoken questions, projects and assignments demonstrating knowledge and understanding, and a portfolio of evidence based on their research and workplace activities.

The final apprenticeship assessment consists of:

Assessment Method 1: Project, Report and Presentation with Questioning

Assessment Method 2: Occupational Professional Discussion
