Course Overview
This has been designed to deliver a high level of knowledge about the onsite construction industry, as well as the occupational skills required to enter the sector as a bricklayer.
It develops the practical skills required for employment and/or career progression as an onsite tradesperson within industry, including complex structural and decorative brickwork and setting out. Alongside this, you will study wider construction principles that underpin the world of work within the sector and onsite operations.
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the bricklaying industry and the sector, covering topics including:
- Health and safety
- The construction industry
- Design and planning
- Preparation for and the production of complex masonry structures
- Renovation of masonry structures

Studies at the Stephen Burke Construction Academy allow you to progress in safe, realistic working environments. You’ll learn practical skills alongside the underpinning principles required to be successful in the industry.
All courses offer enrichment opportunities and work experience with partners in the industry such as St. Modwen Homes to offer the chance to complete exciting customer and industry driven projects and gain experiences which bridge the gap between education and employment.
The course will require you to complete an industry placement with an employer who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training, providing demonstrations and talks on the industry and developing real life Construction Skills in the workplace.
Each year, learners are also given the opportunity to be nominated for a prestigious learner of the year award which guarantees an interview for an exciting position at St. Modwen Homes as trainee in either Site Management/Technical Management or Quantity Surveying.
This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the bricklaying industry, which will prepare learners to enter the industry through employment or as an apprentice. Furthermore, the completion of this qualification will give you the opportunity to progress onto higher education courses and training at college or university.
Applicants should be 16-18 and will be expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 5 including both GCSE maths & English.
