Course Overview

The HNC/D in Computing offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in computing concepts and practical skills.

Students explore topics such as programming languages, database management and network administration. Through hands-on projects and industry-relevant assignments, students develop competencies in software development, system analysis and IT support.

Students undertaking this qualification are prepared to pursue a variety of roles in the field of computing, including software developer, network engineer or systems analyst. 

The HTQ in Computing is a higher level course, equivalent to the first year of a university degree programme and is taught by experienced industry professionals.

The course aims to develop your theoretical and practical knowledge of computing which will get you equipped with the understanding and skills for success in employment in the digital sector.

We offer units which cover a wide variety of aspects including: programming, networking, professional practice, database design and development, security, project planning, software development lifecycles and website design and development.

It is recommended that learners are employed, or seeking employment in a digital or computing related role.

If you’re looking accelerate your digital career and have a passion for digital technologies, then this is the course for you. There are full time and part time course options available to suit your needs. 

On successful completion of the course you gain a widely recognised Level 4 qualification.  You will be able to demonstrate a range of subject specific skills as well as general skills and qualities relevant to employers.  You could progress onto a HND or  ‘top-up’ degree or further professional qualification in the computing area. Alternatively you may wish to pursue employment opportunities in roles such as web developer, mobile application developer, software engineer, computer systems analyst and IT security specialist.

We look forward to welcoming learners with passion, dedication and commitment to learning about computing at a higher level.  To study this course you must be over 18 years old and have four GCSEs including mathematics and English or equivalent, and a Level 3 qualification or equivalent.  Mature candidates (over 21 years of age) who can evidence a relevant work experience portfolio would be favourably considered and academic requirements may be waived, please contact our HE advisor for more information.  All prospective students will be interviewed and assessed individually.
