To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Institute of Technology recently hosted the West Midlands Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (WMAAN) Celebrate Success Event, welcoming ambassadors and partners from across the region.

The WMAAN is a network of around 450 volunteer ambassadors operating across six sub-regions: The Black Country, Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire, The Marches, Greater Birmingham & Solihull, Coventry & Warwickshire and Worcester. The network works to promote apprenticeships by sharing real-life experiences, with Apprentice Ambassadors acting as influential voices to inspire the next generation through engagement in schools, careers fairs and open events.

Following a celebratory opening to the event, ambassadors took part in an interactive ‘Apprentice’-style TikTok challenge, turning their focus to the year ahead and exploring new ways to engage young people who are not currently in education, employment or training, encouraging them to consider the apprenticeship pathway.

Building on the recent launch of new WMAAN digital platforms, delegates stepped out of the boardroom and into the Institute’s specialist learning environments, including VR/AR immersive space, a mock hospital ward, testing laboratories, robotics and automation equipment. Working in teams, ambassadors created short-form video content designed to innovatively promote apprenticeships across a range of career sectors.

Ambassadors were supported by staff and students from the Institute of Technology, including those currently studying HNC/D Digital Content Creation, who provided technical expertise and creative guidance. The collaboration will continue beyond the event, with students now commissioned to refine and finalise the video content ahead of its release later this year.

The event was also attended by Anthony Impey MBE, Board Member of Skills England and lead of the national Apprenticeship Ambassador Network. During his visit, Anthony facilitated a roundtable discussion focused on SME engagement and the impact of apprenticeships within small businesses. His attendance formed part of a wider regional tour connecting with employers and stakeholders during National Apprenticeship Week.
