NSCG Stafford College students have been commissioned on a ‘live brief’ project to chart the development and build of the exciting £22.5M Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Institute of Technology.
Working alongside building contractor Speller Metcalfe, students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography course have attended the site a key build junctures to follow progress and capture imagery as the development progresses.
Most recently, students Tom Brookes, Alice McLaughlin and Charlie Wainwright-Fallows were delighted to have opportunity to photograph from the rooftop when they visited the site in May. They documented the recent significant progress on site, which included:
- Passive fire protection to steelwork
- Disproportionate collapse works, to enhance the structural performance by tying steel and precast elements of the structure together
- Laying of the last precast slabs on the roof
- The beginning of substructure masonry which will support the construction of the building envelope
Commenting on the initiative, Managing Director of the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Institute of Technology said: “Collaboration is one of the core values of the Institute of Technology; as such it has been brilliant to work with students and lecturers from the Level 3 Photography course at NSCG Stafford College to commission a live brief project to follow the IoT build. Learners have had the opportunity to access the working site and have fully immersed themselves in the project brief. I’m absolutely delighted with the output to date, the work has been professionally presented and accurately tells the story of our journey so far.”
