Course Overview
his qualification is for 16-19 year-olds who wish to work within the engineering industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of knowledge about the engineering industry, as well as the occupational skills required to enter the industry. If you complete this qualification, you will be well placed to develop full occupational competence in the practical Engineering discipline of machining, from traditional turning and milling to modern CNC and control methods.
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the engineering industry and the sector, covering topics including:
- Processes of production and manufacturing
- Materials used in production, manufacturing, and fabrication environments
- Specialist machinery utilised in the production and manufacturing environments
- Product and project management
- Quality assurance and quality control
Alongside this, you will study an Engineering specialism of Manufacturing, Processing and Control – Machining and toolmaking technologies.
The course will require you to complete an industry placement with an employer who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training, providing demonstrations and talks on the industry and developing real life Engineering Skills in the workplace.
This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the Engineering industry, which will prepare learners to enter the industry through employment or as an apprentice. Furthermore, the completion of this qualification will give you the opportunity to progress onto higher education courses and training, either at college or university.
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 5 including both GCSE maths & English.
